UnSweetined

Ok. If you want to make a fun of me. Go right ahead. I grew up loving Full House and I still do. I can sit and watch reruns on ABC Family and not get bored. I know all the words to every show and I love it.

That being said. I spent Friday nights with TGIF and Full House, like most kids my age. I read the all the Stephanie books (pink flamingos anyone?) and all the Full House books. I had all of Mary Kate and Ashley's movies. It may have been a cheesy show, but it was family friendly and it was entertaining to a child.

I remember one time I got grounded from watching. This was when it was on on Tuesday nights. This was the ultimate grounding. So of course, like any smart child... I snuck downstairs to watch. I made it to the first commercial break without getting caught. I think my mom got up at the commercial and found me hiding behind the recliner. My friends had to fill me in on the second half of the episode at school the next day. (It was the episode when Becky tried to sing the Winnie the Pooh song, yes, I remember).

I got Jodie Sweetin's memoir UnSweetined for Christmas. It's a quick read. It starts with fun Full House facts (some of which I actually didn't know-like the pilot was filmed on the same set as the yellow brick road scenes for the Wizard of Oz)! Then it progresses to talk about her life after the show. Her struggles with finding herself and dealing with addiction. Some will say it's another classic child star gone drug addict case. But, after reading this, it's obvious she probably would have ended up like that no matter what, on some level. She was just a well funded addict. Her book was very honest (although she admits to lying a lot, so who knows?). All I know is she seems to be figuring things out by talking them out, and I hope she really is. I enjoyed her book. I read it in two sittings. I probably would have stayed up all night to read it had I not been sick. If you were ever a fan of the show, this book is worth a read.

The parts about Full House made me nostalgic. I might have to bust out some DVDs and watch it tonight....

Me, Jodie, my sister Laura, brother Jake and mom in Nov. 1993. My dad hooked me up with a special meet and greet and I got to watch her shoot commercials for Star 64. Also, she loved Jake and I think even held him for a bit, he was cute.
