It's so hot outside, I'm actually drinking ICE water.
I don’t like ice. I like to pretend it’s because I’m really European and I prefer to do things they way they do overseas, but we all know that’s not true. So, I’ll blame my mother. Just kidding mom!
Really though, I grew up brown bagging my lunches and by the time lunch rolled around, my can of Coke or Apple Juice lunchbox were never still cold. I think after years of packing my lunch, I just got used to drinking room temperature beverages. I guess I don’t mind ice in water…if it has to be there, but I definitely never add ice to my own water. However, I did today, and that’s how hot it is outside. I was actually craving ice water!
Apparently summer is here to stay for a while. We skipped Spring, again. I’m not complaining though, I’ll take sunny and 90 over rainy and 55 any day!

welcome rain (& spring)
As much as I love snow, I'm not going to be sad to see winter go. I try not to let myself get spring fever too early, but it has arrived. I'm itching for long nights of sipping wine on my deck. I'm looking forward to sitting outside while out to dinner. I'm excited for visits to the dog park and to take long walks. I can't wait to be able to go outside without wearing a coat, scarf and gloves....etc.
Last night's thunderstorm has me itching! Spring is right around the corner....I can already smell it in the air!

let it snow
it's snowing and I love it sooooo much.
last night Kevin walked to the Shell station across the street and I watched him out the window to make sure nothing awful happened to him. [you know, to make sure he didn't slip on ice in the street and get run over by a car--yeah, I have issues]. Anyway, as I watched him walk in the silent night, I could hear "Let it Snow" playing on the radio at the gas station. As un-romantic as that sounds, there was something so peaceful about the whole situation. We live near a busy street that is rarely ever quiet. So, between the stillness of the night, the falling snow and the faint sound of Christmas music--it was more than enough to get me in the Christmas spirit.
cheers!

dreary
It's such a dreary day out and it feels and smells like spring. I have a feeling this is our last little tease of warm weather before winter really hits. I'm okay with that.
Stay tuned...I have a few blogs brewing...now I just need the time to finish them!

feels like fall.
Tonight, Kevin and I grilled again. This time is was a success. I pretty much let him do all the work. He made turkey burgers, and I was in charge of the corn on the cob and fruit salad. It was delicious. We sat on the deck, drank a beer, grilled and really enjoyed the night. I think at one point he told me "this...is living" and that it is.
I am absolutely loving this cooler weather...and by cooler, I mean... not 95, feels like 105. I have been trying to keep my windows open at night, but I am not enjoying the dreaded allergies that come along with that decision. I basically cannot breath and have a never ending pounding headache. Ah well, that's Cincinnati for ya. It will back in the 90s by the weekend, until then, I'll sit out on my deck, drink beer, listen to the crickets, and stay up way too late. It's okay though, because I took a 3 hour nap tonight.

The Dog Days of Summer

It's hot. In case you can't see it, that image says it's 86 and feels like 98. That's some pretty sick humidity. My sunglasses steam up and slide right off my nose as soon as I walk outside.
My two window ACs are on the fritz. The one in the kitchen drips massive amounts of water all over my floor and the one in my bedroom is on it's last leg. It's been set at 66 for days and it feels like it's set at 76. I'm trying to hold off until next year to buy new ones, so here's to hoping they survive the dog days of summer.
I can handle the heat, but this humidity is out of control.

Thunderstruck

The weather has been so strange this year, but I love it. July has been so mild, I'm not sure there was a day over 90 degrees. I'm sure we will pay for it in August and September and maybe even October, but I don't care. I'll take what I can get and enjoy the warmth later!
I blame my Mom for my fascination with weather, but as soon as I woke up this morning, I had pulled up the Weather Channel on my BlackBerry and I was anxiously awaiting a day full of thunderstorms.
Since then, I have probably checked the radar close to 50 times, counting down the minutes until the storms hit. Unfortunately, it seems to be going southeast, so I am not sure the worst of it will hit me.
There were many benefits to living in LA with the perfect, predictable weather and constant sunshine. You knew you could always go for a midday or late night walk. The beach was always an option. I never had to worry about where my umbrella was (is it in my car? or in my house?). Everything was always the same. Sunny and warm.
I love the sun. The sun is one of my favorite things. It makes me so happy.
However, I also love weather.
Real weather - the kind the weathermen can never get right.
I love the excitement a good storm brings. The automatic stay-inside-be-productive-or- lay-around feel that a good storm brings. It makes you slow down. It forces you to stay inside and be productive. It makes you relax.
I love the excitement of a big snow storm in the winter. The cheerfulness it brings to a gloomy day. I love being snowed in and knowing I can't leave and that my day will be filled with warm blankets, coffee and a good book. I can't wait for snow this winter.
