Sarah Allspaw: Photography

I took a photography class in high school and the first thing the art teacher told the class was that we were going to learn the difference between a snapshot and a photograph. She told us a snapshot is what you take on your family vacation, at a high school dance, or in your backyard.

A photograph is a work of art.

Photography class came easy to me. I was able to capture great images for all of our assignments. In college I spent four years studying videography. Taking a good picture is something I take pride in...it's also something that drives me crazy when someone else takes a bad one! Long story short...I love to take pictures and I love to take good ones.

Since that high school photography class, a lot has changed in the world of photography. While I remember a great deal of what I learned, starting a photography hobby again, isn't going to be easy. I bought myself the Nikon D3100 today. IT'S AWESOME. I've been wanting to buy a camera like this for years, and I finally gave in. I have a lot to learn, and I cannot wait to see everything this camera can do. I won't be changing film in film bags or developing pictures in a dark room this time around, but I will be uploading pictures to my computer, editing them and sharing them with the world. In effort to really learn how to use this camera, I've decided I will [attempt to] take a picture a day. I want to learn my camera, get better at photography and move from being a Snapshot Queen to a Photographer. Wish me luck!
