I started the weekend off at the Reds game on Friday night. They beat Houston 15-6…I can’t remember the last time the Reds were doing this well! I don’t think I’ve seen the stadium that crowded since Griffey was hitting his 500th homerun! It was a great game. The Rusty Griswolds played during the game and during a fireworks show after [video in previous post]. It was a perfect night at the ballpark.
Saturday, against my better judgment, I went to my friend Kristen’s house for a rooftop party. We grilled out, drank a bit and headed down to the Taste of Cincinnati. We didn’t stay at Taste too late, but I was able to catch a few songs from my ex’s band and again, The Rusty Griswolds.
After Taste, I went home to “power nap” before leaving for the Indy 500. I think I slept for about an hour and was ready to go at 2:30am when Anne came to pick me and Becky up. We drove up to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and arrived at the track around 5:30. We got an excellent spot in line and were in the infield by 6:15am. [as opposed to last year when we sat in traffic for over 2 hours and had to park outside]. We promptly poured mimosas and went to rest laying on the hill. Julie, Brian, Liz, and Cam arrived around 9am and the party really started. It was the hottest Indy 500 I have even been to in my life. The infield was over 100 degrees and people were being taken out on stretchers. We had to keep making trips to Anne’s car to cool down in the AC. The bathrooms [where it’s normally cooler b/c it’s the only place with shade] were so hot that at one point I couldn’t even wait in line. I just splashed water on my face and left. It was awful. We all survived and while I still feel dehydrated, I think I’ll recover. We stopped for food on the way home and didn’t get back to Cincy until about 11pm. Needless to say, I was exhausted.
Monday, I decided to finish the long weekend off right and go back down to Taste of Cincinnati. Anne and I went down around 2 and met up with James and stayed until 9 or so. It was a fun day. It was really hot, but there was a decent breeze. We watched this one band called American Bang play and I went home and did some Google-ing and realized I had seen them years ago under a different name. That kind of stuff always happens to me! Random.
Well, I intend to rest this week and refrain from going out. However, it is summer, and I seem to go out every night this time of year! So, we’ll see. Here are some pix from the weekend:
