Things I used to believe, that are no longer true.

1. I hate Southpark.

So, turns out, I don't hate Southpark. I just didn't like the guy I associated the show with in my 8th grade band/chorus class. That stuck with me for a long time. He talked about that damn show, everyday. I knew everything that happened on Southpark during my 8th grade year (1997-1998 -- which is when I think the show started?). Anyway, I just always assumed if guys boys like him liked it, I would not. I revisited Southpark again in college when I had to watch some episodes for class. I remember thinking it was actually pretty funny. Through the years I've enjoyed watching it with guy friends and just recently I've found myself watching it on my own. Amazing, I don't really hate, I actually kind of love it.

2. I can't cook.

Well, I can. I can follow recipes and even have made up some of my own with a fair amount of success. I don't suck. Cooking only vegetarian food is far from boring and a lot more than just pasta (my former cooking glory meal). I am still experimenting in the kitchen and tonight I'll embark on baked portobellos...wish me luck.

3. I don't like cats/am allergic to cats.

I think I might love cats. My friend Sarah, her cat, Xander...plays fetch. Like he brings me his toy, I throw it and he brings it back...for minutes on end. Bella loses interest in fetch within 30 seconds. This cat is fun. I think I might get one. I also don't think I am really allergic to them, or if I was, I am not anymore (Allie's dogs used to make me sneeze too--and I am not allergic to dogs now). So yeah, I love cats.

4. I can eat whatever I want, and I will never get fat.

Ok, so I never really believed this...but for the first time ever, I have to really watch what I eat. I eat WAY too much bread and pasta...and while I usually eat whole grain, I also usually eat 4 servings at a time (I am not kidding--ask any of my friends/former roommies). I am not a very unhealthy eater, but there are a lot of fatty things I like that I just can't eat endlessly anymore. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later...blah.

5. I can never live without a TV.

Well, I think the last 8 months of my life prove that one false. I have no TV. I am alive. Now don't get me wrong, I watch plenty of TV. I watch TV at friends, the gym and online. But. I don't spend endless hours with the TV on in the background. I never see commercials because commercial breaks online really are just enough time to refill my water glass or go to the bathroom. I usually don't make it back in time! While I think about getting a TV pretty often, it's safe to say the way I view TV has completely changed. I know A LOT about TV, advertising, etc. and it's all very fascinating to me.... but, I've never approached the subject without being influenced by it, and now I can and I will.
