As you probably know by now, I get bored easily. I like change. I like to move. I'm a Gemini...what else can I say?
Since I was in high school, I haven't lived anywhere for more than 10 months. College was a series of move-in, move-outs. And well, since college, I've moved a lot too. I'm pretty determined to stay in my current apartment for a year. What an accomplishment that will be!
My constant moving has also led me to abandon several sets of furniture. When I moved to LA, I didn't have anything nice enough to spend 1,000 bucks on a U-Haul, so I got rid of everything. I mean, everything. I only took what fit in my Corolla along with my Dad, and my dog. Needless to say, I didn't take a lot. It's really freeing to abandon things you don't need, it's easy to get tied to possessions and that's not a healthy thing (in my opinion).
When I moved home from LA, I did the same thing. I left all of the furniture I bought in LA, in LA. So, when I moved into my apartment last fall, it was empty. I have slowly accumulated furniture, starting with the necessities (a bed, thanks to Anne & James). I have made small purchases each month to slowly furnish my apartment. I decided to get it all done once and for all, so I spent a significant amount of my tax refund on some new items. I didn’t really need anything…but, I do like decorating and want the place to feel like home.
I spent all of last night assembling furniture (oh yeah, everything in my apartment, I’ve assembled, no idea how I’ll get anything out). I like to buy furniture you have to assemble for a few reasons. One, its super cheap. Two, it’s a fun project to put it all together. And three, I have a small car; so buying big furniture already assembled really isn’t an option.
Today, I have huge sores on my palms from using the screwdriver so much, but I am the proud new owner of a table and chairs (thanks mom, you can have your card table back) and a desk. I also have a new bookcase/storage thing to assemble…but that might have to wait a few days. (who am I kidding? I know I’ll assemble it tonight.)
Anyway…decorating has consumed most of my week. My apartment is a mess, but once it’s clean, I’ll take some pictures for my blog.
Until then, I’ll keep looking at my new obsession for great decorating ideas: Apartment Therapy. I found this website a few months ago when I was looking for ways to have a “garden” on a balcony and I’ve been obsessed ever since!
Happy Friday Friends.
