All these years I had no idea that the Naked Cowboy was from Cincinnati. Not that this has anything to do with my story...but to me he as always the crazy-naked-guitar-playing-guy on Times Square that I would see on TRL on MTV when I was in junior high. It's funny that over ten years later, he is still around and for the first time, I actually understand what he was doing out there all these years. (I also understand why bars in Cincinnati make such a big deal out of his appearances).
I heard the Naked Cowboy (aka Robert John Burck) on the radio on my way into work the other day. The purpose of the interview was to discuss the recent "trouble" the Naked Cowboy was causing. It was something about him not being allowed to preform in Greenhills (the part of Cincy where he is from) because it's considered offensive. I don't care too much about that part of the story, but I do want to say that people need to get a life. Who cares where he performs. The dude's underwear covers more than any self respecting speedo on the beach, so who cares?? ...find something worthy to complain about.
Anyway...on to the part I do really care about. Toward the end of his interview he said something about the message behind all this Naked Cowboy-ness. Don't quote me on this exactly, but what I gathered was the following:
Know what you want in life and get it.
Be yourself, be transparent.
Don't spend a single day worrying about what others think of you.
There was more to it, and I wish I had the ability to go back and listen to the interview again. The interview was on 96.5 Pure Rock in Cincinnati. I briefly glanced at their website and didn't see it up there yet. Hopefully they replay the interview or host it online.
Never in my life did I think I'd learn something valuable from the Naked Cowboy.
Thank you Naked Cowboy, I fully support you!
