Yesterday I went to Berne, Indiana. A place where my ancestors came hundreds of years ago when they moved to the states from Bern, Switzerland (among other places). All the places in Indiana that I have been, I had never made it to Berne. I guess I had no reason to go other than the fact there are a lot of Allspaws buried there -- including my great grandparents. The only other reason to go is the annual family reunion that brings together a few different families including some Allspaws. That is why I went yesterday.
I got to meet a number of people that I have never met, but the people who were the most interesting to me were my grandpa's (who I never knew) first cousins. It almost seems weird that I hadn't met them sooner as I know most of my dad's cousins from both sides. But these were my dad's dad's cousins, and well, since my dad's dad died when my dad was 9, I guess my dad barely ever got to know these women. They were of couse nice, beautiful and hilarious. I wish I could have talked to them longer, and I look forward to see them all again next year. I didn't take any pictures (I don't know why) at the reunion...only a few at the cemetery. However, this little trip to Berne, Indiana made me think back to when I stopped for a day in Bern, Switzerland (a city I am much more proud to say I am "from") haha. I pulled some pictures I took in Bern off Shutterfly...I really want to go back to Europe....
