it smells like summer

I love Laurel Lake.

Over the weekend Anne, Kevin and I went down to the boat with my dad and his friend Todd. We took Bella and Rex and had quite the eventful weekend on the water. The weather was cloudy and rainy on Saturday, but we were still able to get in plenty of swim time in the afternoon. It stormed Saturday night, and it's always kind of fun to watch lightning from the houseboat. Sunday the weather cleared up and it was sunny and warm. We were able to take out a Jet Ski for a while, swim, lay out, fish...all the good summer stuff.

It was Kevin's first trip down to the houseboat and before we left he kept asking me if the fish bite. I know they have bit my dad a few times, but I don't ever remember being bit. So, I kind of teased him and tried to freak him out--I kept telling them how they bite all the time, and it really hurts, blah blah blah.

Well, that bad karma came around quick.

I was bit by like 5 fish.

The fish bites hurt enough that you don't want to get bit. It's just like a little pinch, but it comes out of nowhere and you never really get to see what it was that bit you. I had one bite my back so hard that it drew blood. I could feel the fish flapping around on my back, I jumped, it bit, I bled. I guess I won't give Kevin a hard time anymore...

It was a relaxing weekend, filled with good food, good drinks and good conversation. I always feel refreshed after a weekend on the lake--it's like a mini vacation. Hopefully I'll have time to go down there again before winter weather sets in.
