Weekend on Water

My dad has a houseboat that he keeps down in Kentucky at Laurel Lake.  I always love to go down there because it always guarantees a relaxing time no matter what the circumstances.  This weekend was no different.  I took Bella along and we spent a good two days on the water.  We didn't get in until about 2am on Friday night because we left late after Jake's track meet.  So, needless to say, I slept in on Saturday.  I don't know when it happened, but sleeping in now means sleeping past 9am for me.  I remember in college when sleeping in meant sleeping til 4 in the afternoon!  Those days are long gone and I have this annoying internal alarm clock that goes off every morning now.  It also helps that I have a dog who expects a potty break every morning around 6am.
Ok, so I spent Saturday lounging around and enjoying a few good thunderstorms.  Thunderstorms on a boat can be a little bit scary, because, after all, you are sitting on water.  I never really felt scared though, so I just sat out on the back porch and watched the rain pour down for hours.  It was very calming to watch.

The weather improved for Sunday and my dad and I spent the day a little more productively.  We built a slide for the roof of the boat, something he's been wanting to do for years.  I was a good helper and took measurements, helped keep stuff from falling off the roof, you know.  haha.  I had to take Bella up on the roof of the boat with me because she is such a bad dog (ok, she is good except when I leave her and she freaks out).  I climb up on the roof and left Bella on the deck.  Well, it took her about two seconds to freak
out that I was out of sight.  She acted as if I was going to climb up on the roof and fly away and never come back.  As soon as I was on the roof she jumped off the side of my dad's boat, onto the dock, and onto the boat in the next slip.  Once on the neighbors boat, she kept scooting back until she could see me on top of the roof.

It was then she

stopped,

stared

and barked.

Bad dog.

I climbed down and my dad dragged Bella up onto the roof with us.  She was happy once she was on the roof with me, even though every time I went back down to the deck, I thought she was going to jump off after me!

So, even though we didn't leave the dock once all weekend, it was still the most relaxing weekend I've had in a long time.  I left my laptop at home and refused the "super antenna" that my dad kept offering me to use for my cell phone.  I did have some service and couldn't completely put down my BlackBerry, but I used it probably 95% less than I would have on a weekend at home.  So, relaxing it was and I am thinking weekend trips to the boat are going to be a regular thing for me this summer!
